Updating nis maps linux
The only exception to this rule is when users change their password with the command. When changing a map, you need to start with editing the source file.Just thought I would note what’s happening on my PC.Hi mrkqql143, This problem was discussed in the following thread, and it will be corrected in a future update. The procedure of changing the password should end with the line " While the reliability of NIS is much better then NIS it is not 100% and sometimes maps fail to propagate. To ensure periodic updating and propagating of NIS maps on slave servers, it is recommended to run as cron job.Norton Internet Security 2011 , Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Check if you are eligable for a FREE Norton upgrade)Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration.”--Thomas Alva Edison I'm not a Symantec employee and my posts do not represent the views of Symantec. Since I've never edited it, I assume it's always been on. Assuming it does play out the last 24 hours, the start date depends on the NIS install date, not the current date.
I have NIS 2011 and It wont update the map it still says 8/16/2010 I have tried updating it my self amoung other avanues.
NIS was widely adopted among Unix vendors and is supported by every Linux distribution.
NIS, (Network Information Services), enables account logins and other services (host name resolution, xinetd network services configuration, ...), to be centralized to a single NIS server.
Sun provides as an example the The Unix make utility that originally was created to simplify compilation and linking of large project is used to builds NIS maps (targets).
It is an overkill for such a simple purpose but as a universal mechanism such a usage makes sense.
